Antique Point de Venise Burano Lace Rose and Fruit Needle Lace Doily
Possibly Italian antique Point de Venise: a beautiful round doily with a floral scallop edge, decorated with fisherman's net techniques. Features include opening rosebuds (buds), tulips/pomegranates?, grapes, pears, and floral patterns resembling violets. Handmade needlepoint Venetian lace.
This lace is likely Venetian lace (known internationally as Point de Venise) from around the island of Venice, or possibly Burano lace from the island of Burano, likely over 100 years old. It could also be lace from Bruges, Belgium, or similar regions.
Several types of flowers, fruits, leaves, and stems are intricately woven together, creating a dynamic impression with supple, flowing curves.
The center fabric is soft, with a double layer of drawn work (ladder embroidery) forming a lattice pattern that evokes a sense of coolness and showcases meticulous craftsmanship.
Each large and small scallop on the edge is adorned with 6-7 or more picot lace stitches.
Each bridge connecting the spaces of the Venetian lace is also carefully embellished with a single, charming picot.
The colors are a gentle antique ecru, a slightly chalky stone white, and a mellow, off-white ivory. The texture is smooth, soft, and gentle, likely made of cotton for the center portion.
Venetian lace is primarily made using a needle, tightly twisting fine, stiff, and strong linen threads to meticulously weave a dense and secure pattern resembling a fisherman's net, stitch by stitch. It possesses a firmness and resilience, is not overly delicate, is easy to handle, and is highly durable and robust.

Please understand that as an old handmade item, minor imperfections may be present.
It would also look lovely framed.
When held up to the light, you can enjoy the woven (net-like) patterns. Placed on furniture, it adds a beautiful touch to everyday life. It is also beautiful as a mat under an objet d'art, vase, or small doll, and can even be used as a jewelry tray.
