Antique Belgian Princess Lace 30cm Doily Sunflower & Small Flower Motif

A beautiful, slightly larger 30cm round doily made of delicate bobbin lace, handcrafted in France.

Likely made using Princess Lace and Brussels Lace techniques, this piece is thought to be a Belgian antique due to its technical craftsmanship.

In the Princess Lace style, the scallops around the trim and the flowers resembling sunflowers and crape myrtles, along with smaller blossoms and leaves, are impressively depicted by rotating the tape and gathering it.

The Brussels Lace technique is used to elegantly portray the leaves between the sunflowers and smaller flowers.

The yarn connecting the spaces not only resembles plant stems but also evokes a cool and beautiful breeze blowing across a meadow.

Varying the density of the weave expresses the natural forms and frills of the flowers and leaves.

Four flowers resembling sunflowers stand tall within three-leaf clusters, creating a delicate and light work of art that nonetheless evokes bright and cheerful feelings.

Small, puffy blossoms dance alongside leaves that seem to flow lightly in the wind.

Exquisite whitework hand embroidery is found around the stamens, pistils, and leaf veins.

A highly artistic design.

The color is a gentle, soft, and very subtly yellowish ecru. It has a tone like pale vanilla ice cream or white butter.

The center is woven with very fine threads, making it smooth and soft. The lace, while not excessively thin, is sheer and lightweight, feeling soft and smooth to the touch. When a vase or object is placed on it, it will not wobble, making it suitable for decorative purposes due to its optimal thinness.

It possesses a delicacy and texture distinct from machine-made items. The material is imagined to be high-quality natural linen, or possibly a cotton and linen blend.

It is in beautiful condition with no stains, scratches, or fraying. It appears to be unused, but as it is an aged handmade item, please forgive any minor oversights. Considering its age, the condition is excellent.

The final image shows the reverse side, which is also a beautiful and lovely aspect of this piece.

Its thinness and slightly larger size make it easy to display vases, figurines, tea sets, etc., creating an impressive accent on tables or entryways. Framing it would also be a beautiful, painterly option.

I previously offered a similar piece which I gave to a friend, and have now listed this one, which is even more beautifully crafted, as a new item. This is the last one I have.
