Description

I made a DIY pickup for upright bass using EMG components.

For attaching to the upright bass, I used zip ties to avoid damaging the fingerboard with screws or clamps. Although not shown in the images, I attached a non-slip rubber sheet to the contact surface on the back of the fingerboard.

The pickup also captures the slap sound clearly.

EMG = Active (requires 9V battery) with 1 Volume, 1 Tone control.
Pickup = Passive with 1 Volume, 1 Tone control.

The knob dice can be made in your choice of red, blue, yellow, green, or white. They are push-on type, not set screw type.

This is a personal project I'm sharing, so if you're looking for a perfect product, I recommend purchasing a professionally manufactured one.

Images 3 and 4 show an example of installation.
