Don't judge a book by its cover.
I believe that's how the proverb goes.
Sometimes a bow's performance isn't directly reflected in its appearance or looks. A bow that might not initially catch your eye due to its unpretentious design can, when played, elicit a Wow! reaction.
This bow, how should I put it... I find it to be strikingly handsome. This is likely a subjective opinion, however...
And its playability is just as it appears.
In short, it has no quirks.
It beautifully and perfectly embodies what many players seek in a violin bow.
It's easy to play. It faithfully executes the intended actions. It's neither more nor less than that.
I can't quite put it into words, but when you hold it, it possesses a quiet yet definite presence.
Its resonance tends to be a bit more brilliant than the bow I listed previously, or perhaps I should say, it feels like it produces more overtones.
However, this is a comparison between this pernambuco bow and other bows of heavier mass.
It truly and honestly spins beautiful music.
The bow hair was replaced last month, and the leather wrap (ostrich) and silver wrap (SILVER925, 0.25mm) have also been renewed. (Originally, it was wrapped with silver thread, and I wanted to preserve the original, but it had reached its limit, so I reluctantly replaced it...)
There is a faint mark on the audience side of the frog, possibly an owner's initial, an engraved alphabet.
There are some dents on the bow stick, but no breaks or bends, and I can't think of any factors that would significantly affect its playing or lifespan.
Based on its age, style, and the appearance of the varnish, I believe it to be a German bow from the early 1900s.
The button, decorated with what appears to be abalone shell on a black background, also adds a subtle touch of elegance, I feel.
Every time I see it, it somehow lifts my spirits, and it's a favorite of mine, but I must part with it due to necessity. (For me, who seeks out slightly unusual bows, it was an excellent student... a compliment, of course.)
I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone looking for a good quality, elegant old bow that is ready to be played.
