Rembrandt Copperplate Print (Postcard)

10.00 $
Description
Received as a souvenir from Europe about 40 years ago.

Each depicts the scene of a men's and women's restroom. While this theme might seem in poor taste at first glance, it is thought to have been a challenge to taboos in 17th-century society and was popular at the time. Therefore, whether understanding its intent or simply due to personal preference, similar etchings are still housed in many museums today, with works by Rembrandt van Rijn, known for his high level of skill, being particularly popular.

These are two postcards combined and matted.

Both were drawn in 1631, with English titles A Man Making Water and A Woman Making Water.

Size
Postcards (both): 9.3cm x 15cm

Condition
They have been stored in my home as I have no place to display them. As they are old, there is some yellowing, and the mat shows some minor wrinkles.

There may also be other minor scratches or scuffs that are not visible, so please make your purchase decision with this understanding.
