Vintage '45-'49 Stamped French Zone Made in Germany Brass Pocket Ashtray Hinged

This is a vintage pocket ashtray or silent butler. It is clearly stamped French Zone and Made in Germany on the back plate. That means it could only have been produced between 1945 and 1949. It was likely owned by a post WWII occupying military personnel as they were sold as souvenirs. Its extremely unique to find the marks of this specific time period prior to the creation of East and West Germany. Highly collectible for tobacciana and post-WWII history buffs. This brass and enamel square hinged cigarette ash box is in quite good shape. Created to conveniently hold cigarette ashes. Its so unique and a decorative piece of collectible craftsmanship! Please see photos to note there ARE internal burn marks in the box. Measuring under 2 inches square in size, this intricately designed private compact box is made of brass, adding a touch of elegance to any vanity or display. The hinged flip-out design makes it easy to access and use, while the matchstick design adds a whimsical touch to its overall appeal. Hide away ashes from whatever you might smoke. Its so cool! The front enamel is in good shape overall, with the small left bottom corner without enamel. There is some light yellowing on the front enameled portion. My assumption is the yellowing is likely from the cigarette smoke residue. The clasp is in great condition and the spring for the cigarette holder works well. It also has a small brass knot on the back of the cigarette holder, to more easily pull it out.
