Vintage Handcrafted Tapestry Basket Woven Signed Artisan Folk Art Edna Zaremba

Edna Zaremba is an American fiber artist working in tapestry basketry, a technique that emerged from the studio basket movement of the 1970s and 80s where trained weavers began pushing traditional Appalachian and Shaker basket forms toward sculptural art objects.   Zaremba's signature is layering: base woven in rattan reed with grapevine and honeysuckle inclusions, then a tapestry band of dyed cord, cotton yarn tassels and driftwood accents worked directly into the sides. Each piece is numbered and signed. This one includes her original golden foil-stamped hangtag still tied on, as well as a penny affixed to the bottom with the year the piece was made, 1991.
