Bostonian (ITALY) Men's Florentine Black Patent Leather Slip-On Luxury Loafers
Bostonian
Polished patent leather uppers. Easy slip-on design for quick wear. Cushioned insole for added comfort. Classic penny loafer styling for dress or business wear. Bostonian Made in Italy shoes represent premium, outsourced sub-collections launched from the 1980s through the early 2000s to offer sleeker, more fashionable alternatives to the brand's heavy, traditional American-made dress shoes. The Origin: Shifting from New England to Europe: For nearly a century after its founding in 1899 as the Commonwealth Shoe and Leather Company, Bostonian manufactured its famed Goodyear-welted dress shoes entirely in New England. However, following the brand's acquisition by British footwear giant Clarks in 1979, management sought to capture the booming market for lightweight, flexible, and design-forward European footwear. Rather than retooling American factories, Bostonian contracted with artisan workshops in Italy to produce higher-end, curated collections alongside their standard domestic lines. The Italian-made Bostonian shoes were immediately recognizable by their softer leathers, Blake-stitched or cement construction (as opposed to thick Goodyear welts), and sleeker silhouettes. The most prominent lines included: Bostonian Florentine: The most famous Italian line, highly regarded by vintage enthusiasts. This collection specialized in premium, flexible slip-ons, particularly kilty tassel loafers and woven leather dress shoes featuring rich, hand-burnished finishes
