Description
A finely modeled English ceramic vase produced by Oldcourt Ware of Staffordshire, featuring a classic double-handled form with a gently flared rim, rounded body, and pedestal foot. The piece is rendered in a rich cobalt blue glaze with a softly graduated ground, over which a hand-painted scenic transfer depicts a pastoral English landscape—complete with cottage, tower, rolling hills, and delicate trees. Crafted in earthenware typical of Staffordshire production, the vase showcases a combination of transfer printing and hand-finishing, a technique widely used in the late 19th to early 20th century and continuing into the early-to-mid 20th century for decorative wares. The subtle crackle (crazing) visible beneath the glaze is consistent with age and firing methods of the period. The twin handles are elegantly scrolled with molded detailing at the terminals, adding both visual balance and a neoclassical influence to the form. A beaded band encircles the upper body, providing textural contrast to the smooth glazed surface. Height: 7.25 inches Good vintage condition. Notable overall crazing consistent with age. No major chips or cracks observed. Minor surface wear and light kiln or glaze irregularities typical of handmade pottery. The underside bears a stamped mark reading “Oldcourt Ware England Handpainted Staffordshire” with a crown motif, confirming English origin and manufacturer.  Likely dates from the early-to-mid 20th century, circa 1920s-1940s.
