【Semi-3D Specimen】Anotogaster sieboldii Dragonfly Strap

Scientific Name: Anotogaster sieboldii

Common Names: Oniyanma / Oni-tonbo / Uma-bito

Adults measure approximately 70 mm (males) and 80 mm (females) in abdominal length, with hindwing lengths of about 55 mm (males) and 65 mm (females). The total length from the head to the tip of the abdomen can reach 9-11 cm. Females are larger than males and have an ovipositor protruding from their tail end.
The compound eyes on the left and right sides touch slightly at the center of the head. Live specimens have vibrant green compound eyes, but they turn dark brown when preserved as specimens. The body color is black, but there are yellow markings in various places, including a ha (ハ) shaped pattern on the front of the thorax, two diagonal stripes on the sides of the thorax, and a thin horizontal stripe on each abdominal segment.

We will ship the individual pictured, collected near Tsukuba-san Fureai no Sato in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture. It was collected on the morning of September 26, 2024. My measurement was 92 mm.
