This is a teapot from the Sahara series by Swiss ceramic manufacturer Langenthal.
As its name, meaning desert, suggests, the charm lies in the glaze that transitions from a pale sandy color to a deep brown. The bleeding and variations in tone at the boundaries are unique to each piece, creating a landscape-like expression on the surface of the vessel.
The design evokes a sense of returning to nature and a craft-like atmosphere that spread across Europe around the 1970s. The balance between the rounded, soft form and the straight handle and spout is also beautiful, giving it a quiet presence as a functional item.
This piece will add warmth to your space, not just for tea, but simply by placing it on a shelf or dining table. It seems to pair well with Nordic, Mingei (folk craft), and Japandi interiors.
