Lamprey (River Lamprey) Amateur-Made Preserved Specimen

This is a wet specimen of an adult Japanese river lamprey (Lampetra japonica), purchased from a store in March 2024. It was created by an amateur as an experiment, by pouring hot water over the specimen and then preserving it in a clear container filled with absolute ethanol.

- Contents: Japanese River Lamprey (Lampetra japonica) from the Ishikari River

- Specimen Size: Over 20cm
- Specimen Condition: When created, after pouring hot water, a large amount of slime was released, and the entire body became wrinkled. There is also a cut below the dorsal fin for evisceration.
- Container: 500ml plastic water bottle from a 100-yen shop
- Container Dimensions: Approximately 20cm (height) x 6cm (width). Approximately 500g.
- Liquid: Absolute Ethanol

Also, even after evisceration, some fluid may still leak out, and the ethanol may become cloudy if shaken. In such cases, we recommend replacing it with commercially available isopropyl alcohol ethanol solution from your local pharmacy.
We also recommend replacing the container with a glass bottle if possible.

As this is a biological specimen, there may be age-related changes and individual differences.
As it is preserved in ethanol, please keep it away from open flames and direct sunlight.

This is my first attempt at creating a wet specimen of a Japanese river lamprey, also incorporating my own experiments.

Please note that the packaging will also be done by an amateur. Of course, even though it is plastic, I will pack it carefully to prevent breakage.
