Description
Scientific Name: Megalara garuda
The scientific name, Megalara garuda, is derived from Garuda, a half-human, half-bird creature from Hindu mythology that is a symbol of Indonesia.
This is a wasp with enormous jaws discovered in Indonesia in 2011. The researchers who discovered it also referred to it as the king of wasps.
It appears to be the sole species in its genus.
It's also featured as a figure in the Living Creatures Encyclopedia, so we highly recommend it!
Please note that we cannot guarantee against any grade reduction due to shipping.
We will ship the individual pictured from Makonga-sulut, Walasiho, Wawo, Kolaka Utara Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Coordinates are included. It was collected in August 2025. My measurement of its body length was 44mm. I believe it has particularly large jaws. The jaws are slightly misaligned.
