Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture - Zohou Kiln
Silver Glazed Deep Bowl
Unused

Zohou Kiln, a pottery studio in Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture, also serves as an official kiln for the Gifu Prefecture Shrine Association.

The hallmark of Zohou Kiln is its distinctive shade of red.

Using bengara, a red pigment traditionally used in Japan since ancient times, they meticulously grind precious domestic bengara for over three years (one thousand days).

This process results in a unique, smooth, and deep red pigment known as Sennichi-zuri no Aka (Red of a Thousand Days' Grinding).

This deep bowl, boldly adorned with silver glaze, features this rare and valuable red pigment on its rim and foot.
