Line rules are thin metal plates made of the same material as type or aluminum. They are made to be the same height as type. Nowadays, line rules can be drawn with a single button in Excel, but in letterpress printing, each lead line rule is cut to a specific length by machine and assembled into a plate while calculating to match the type size. In addition to creating tables and surrounding titles, they can be used in various applications such as stationery and as accents on business cards.
These are straight line patterns.

They appear to have little signs of use, with some having a beautiful luster and others a rough texture.
