G2528 [Rare - Hisamatsu Kiln] Tokoname Ware Ceramic Jar with Lid, Pickling Container, Umeboshi, Size 1

Thank you for viewing.

This is a lidded ceramic container, likely from the prestigious Hisamatsu Kiln in Tokoname ware (either the Kiri-tate or Maru-tsubo type).

It is a superb piece with a calm amber color and a black glaze drip pattern that is deeply evocative.
Hisamatsu Kiln pottery is thick, minimizing temperature fluctuations, and has a smooth interior finish, making it ideal for storing umeboshi (pickled plums), miso, and nukazuke (fermented rice bran pickles). As the manufacturer is now out of business, this is a rare item.
