Money Tree Kanenonaryu Wood Tapestry Nishijin-ori Goten Trading Interior
A noble tapestry featuring a purple background with golden tree embroidery.
Please display it in a small frame or similar.
During the Edo period, in Tenpo 11 (1840), Hiramatso Rakusai, a magistrate of the Tsu domain, and Yamazaki Yoshimasa, a calligrapher, published a woodblock print of The Money Tree. According to Rakusai's diary, Shoshin Nichijo, the 109 prints were dedicated to Todo Izumo and shrines, and also distributed by Rakusai when he inspected rural villages. It is recorded that these were items to improve people's lives amidst continuous famine.
The inscriptions read:
A tree of all kinds of good fortune
A tree of deep compassion
