Kanazawa Katani's oil blotting paper is made using the Gold Leaf Beating Paper Method.
This processing method creates finely crushed paper fibers with maximum density, resulting in oil blotting paper with astonishing absorbency.
This special method, achievable only by a gold leaf manufacturer, utilizes gold leaf beating machines. The gold leaf technology, which involves beating gold to a thickness of approximately 1/10,000th of a millimeter, is impossible with ordinary rolling machines. Several tons of pressure are applied at a single point, crushing the fibers to their maximum density.
(Typical paper manufacturers use calendar machines with pressure rollers, which apply linear pressure and cannot achieve this level of fiber crushing.)
