This is a folding fan in a decorative envelope to be attached to an Ubugi (baby's first kimono) for the Omiyamairi (shrine visit for a baby). Please check the condition in the images. This item was received as a gift, so there are signs of use such as fading and discoloration.
It is attached to the kimono's cord with hemp string. The hemp string signifies May you live a long life until you have white hair. The folding fan signifies May your happiness expand like a fan opening.
Depending on the region, there is a custom of gifting a decorative fan from family and relatives. It is considered auspicious to hang many of these on the Ubugi along with Himosen (money tied with a string).
