Jingdezhen Ten-Color Enamel Gold Ground Wanhua Buluodi Tea Set

A Jingdezhen Gold Ground / Ten-Color Enamel tea set purchased at a specialty store in Shanghai in 1986.
It has been stored at home and is almost unused.

Fencai (粉彩) is an overglaze enamel technique applied to pure white porcelain fired in Jingdezhen. In Japan, it is called Jikkin-de (十錦手), and it is a complex coloring technique intertwined with the firing process.

Wanhua Buluodi (万華不落地) is a technique developed during the Qing Dynasty. The surface of the vessel is covered with vibrant flowers and fruits, with gold enamel applied in the gaps so that the original white porcelain color is not visible. This pattern, Golden Ground Wanhua Buluodi, represents eternal vitality and prosperity and is said to have been greatly favored by Qing emperors, especially Empress Dowager Cixi.
