[Background of the work (Synopsis)]

Shiokumi is a Kabuki dance based on the Noh play Matsukaze.
The sea woman Matsukaze (or Karumo), who longs for the nobleman Ariwara no Yukihira, exiled to Suma,
dances her lingering feelings and sorrow while wearing Yukihira's keepsake Eboshi (court cap) and Kariginu (court robe).
The performance is known for its distinctive scenes, such as the sea woman drawing seawater on the Suma beach during Mangetsu (full moon), and dances using a Sandai-gasa (three-tiered umbrella).
