What is a Storm Glass? The Storm Glass, which repeatedly forms various crystal patterns in response to weather changes, was primarily used as a weather predictor during the 19th century in Europe, especially by sailors. When the weather is clear, the crystals at the bottom of the glass bottle settle completely, and the liquid becomes clear. Before rain, the amount of crystals gradually increases, and star-shaped crystals float in the clear liquid. Before storms or strong winds, some crystals reach the surface of the liquid, forming large, leaf-like shapes. The liquid becomes cloudy and appears to be fermenting. This phenomenon can be observed up to 24 hours before a weather change. In winter, especially during snow or frost, crystals will accumulate high up in the bottle. The crystals will be very white, with visible scattered particles.
