Memorial Tablet, 4寸 (approx. 19cm height x 10.3cm width x 12cm depth)

Buddhist Tablet (Ihai) - 4寸 (19cm Height x 10.3cm Width x 12cm Depth)

The Ihai is a Buddhist altar utensil used to enshrine and honor the spirits of the deceased. It is considered an important item for ancestral veneration.
The Buddhist name (Kaimyo) is inscribed on the front of the Ihai.
Even without a Buddhist name, an Ihai can be created using the deceased's secular name (Zokumyo) by adding 之霊位 (no reii) after the name. This is considered to have the same meaning as receiving a Buddhist name.

If you wish to have the Buddhist name and other details handwritten, we will do so free of charge. Please refer to the last image for examples.
After your purchase, please provide the Buddhist name you wish to have handwritten, the posthumous title (e.g., Koji for men, Daishi for women), the date of death, the secular name (full name), and the age at death. We will then handwrite these details for you free of charge. Of course, you are also welcome to purchase the Ihai alone.

We will also handwrite the date of death, secular name (full name), and age at death free of charge.

In the Kanto region, the Buddhist name and date of death are inscribed on the front of the Ihai, and the secular name and age at death are inscribed on the back.

In the Tokai and Nishi regions, only the Buddhist name is inscribed on the front of the Ihai, and the secular name and age at death are inscribed on the back.

There are regional differences. If you already have an ancestral Ihai, it is customary to create the new one with the same layout.
