Description
A well-used bandoneon, complete with a custom hard case.

I purchased this instrument over 15 years ago for 250,000 yen from an alumnus of a tango band at Waseda University.
While its history prior to that is unknown, the internal stamp suggests it was manufactured in 1946 (see image 12).

It originally came in a worn-out cardboard case, but I commissioned a custom hard case from a musical instrument case maker in Hamamatsu for 60,000 yen.

Personally, I believe it has a wonderful sound from being played extensively. The resonance of the left hand, in particular, is deep and possesses a unique beauty.

However, due to its long period of use, it had some wear and air leaks. I had it fully maintained, including tuning, by a tuner in Fukuoka (Mr. Katsumi Goto, deceased) who was introduced to me by a professional player.

The main maintenance included: repairing bellows air leaks, full tuning, repairing and restoring decorative metal parts, restoring mother-of-pearl on the push buttons, and replacing leather straps. The total cost was 85,000 yen.

Mr. Goto commented, It's a well-used but historically significant instrument.

It is a diatonic type with 38 buttons on the right hand and 32 buttons on the left hand, meaning the sound differs when pushing and pulling.

I haven't played it for a while, so upon listing it, I confirmed the sound of all buttons. The F# on the right-hand pinky, when pulled, does not sound (it sounds when pushed; see image 2 for its position).
Therefore, it will likely require re-tuning.
It is still fully playable, but the bandoneon is an instrument with a complex and delicate combination of wood, paper, leather, and metal.
Please understand that there will be wear and tear associated with its age and use.

I will also include a custom-made corduroy cloth that is placed on the knees to prevent scuffing from pants.
