[Product Description]
This is a Koto (こと/そう), a traditional Japanese stringed instrument.
While it is commonly called Koto (こと), the correct kanji is 箏 (そう).
It has a long wooden body with typically 13 strings stretched across it.
The pitch is adjusted by moving the white bridges called Kotoji (ことじ) located under the strings.
There are several types depending on the construction, from Namikou (並甲) for beginners to high-end Kurikou (くり甲) for concerts and advanced players.
It is played by plucking the strings with tsume (爪), which are worn on the thumb, index finger, and middle finger of the right hand.
So (箏) and Kin (琴) are originally different instruments. So is distinguished by adjusting the sound with bridges, while Kin adjusts the sound by pressing the strings with fingers without using bridges.
