David Nuuhiwa (Nuiiba) 9.1ft Longboard - Owned by the surfer himself - Extremely Rare
This is a private board from the legendary nose rider, David Nuuhiwa.
It's his favorite board, which he brought with him during his visit to Japan about 35 years ago. One of the staff members who coordinated his stay in Japan fell in love with the board at first sight and begged David to let him have it when he returned home. The staff member owned it as the second owner, and I purchased it a few years ago when he decided to release his collection due to aging.
This board was co-designed by Bill Stewart and David Nuuhiwa. Bill Stewart made a few boards for David between '89 and for three years, but most of them no longer exist, making this board extremely rare (according to Stewart Surfboards US headquarters).
The shape is marked '89, suggesting it's an early production. David reportedly used this board in many contests.
The board's history is only with three people: David himself, the coordinator, and myself.
As this is a globally rare board, I would like to pass it on to someone who will cherish it.
[Product Description]
Nose: Round, Tail: Round pin, Rails: Bill Stewart's unique shape with an edge about 1 inch from the bottom, Bottom: Nose concave to VEE. Although it's PU foam, it feels lighter than a 9.1ft board, possibly due to the construction method, allowing for quick takeoffs. It can be enjoyed in medium waves around waist-high, but it's particularly fun in small waves from knee to thigh-high.
Size: 9.1 x 22-7/8 x 3-1/4, Foam: PU.
Fin type: 2+1 with an official box.
*A Donald Takayama HALO fin (4-1/8) is attached to the stabilizer box, but it cannot be removed, so it will be included as a bonus as is. (Equivalent to a new price of ¥15,000)
There are noticeable signs of age, including sun fading, foot marks, and repair marks, but all have been professionally repaired and are in good condition.
This is a one-of-a-kind board featuring the David Nuuhiwa Surfboards logo, a JIMMY'Z decal from a surf team in California at the time, and Bill Stewart's artistic airbrush design.
*Bill's signature is somewhat obscured by the airbrush, but we have confirmed with Stewart's headquarters that it is indeed Bill's signature by sending them an image.
*Handover in the Shonan area or within the prefecture (shipping not available).
*The starting price has been adjusted based on the past winning bids of vintage boards.
