【Sound Module - Operation Confirmed】Roland SC-88VL
This is a sound module compliant with the MIDI standard, released by Roland in 1995.
It was included in the DTM introductory package Muziro that I acquired around 1996-1997.
It features 654 tones, a maximum polyphony of 64 notes, and a maximum of 32 parts. For someone who had been composing music with Super Famicom's Desaemon and Ongaku Tsukuru Kanaderu up to that point, these specifications were like a dream.
After purchasing its successor, the SC-8850, around 2000, I stopped using it. In recent years, it has been stored in a box in the attic of my parents' house along with other PC peripherals.
As a side note, the sound quality of the background music for Final Fantasy VIII and Wild Arms 2, released on PlayStation, is very reminiscent of the SC-88.
◆Included Accessories
・SC-88VL
・Genuine Roland AC Adapter
・2 x MIDI Cables (Bonus)
◆Product Condition
The exterior of the main unit has one spot of rust on the bottom, but no other noticeable damage.
The AC adapter makes a rattling sound when shaken, but it is still functional.
The box, instruction manual, and other components of Muziro (SSW, etc.) are all lost. The MIDI cables were found still plugged into this unit, so they are included as a bonus.
◆Operation Check
The unit powers on, and I was able to connect it to my PC via an audio interface. Sound output has also been confirmed.
