Showa Retro TORIO Vintage Speakers

These are the speakers that came with Trio's 1970s stereo receiver, the KRT-2000.

Approximate dimensions: Height 52.5cm, Width 27cm, Depth 19.5cm, Weight approx. 4.7kg (each)

They are 2-way bass-reflex speakers with bass-reflex ports made only of the panel thickness.

The cables are directly attached and are a long approx. 7m 60cm.

White is the positive terminal.

The tips were originally RCA terminals but have been cut off.

The enclosure panel thickness is 9mm, and it resonates when tapped.

These are speakers that utilize the characteristic box sound often found in the Showa era.

Compared to modern high-rigidity enclosures, these may feel somewhat cheap, but they are characterized by a warm, instrument-like tone that leverages the resonance of the wood.

For this listing, I opened the rear panel to check the condition of the units. (The speaker grilles cannot be removed.)

Photos 10-14 show the right speaker, and photos 15-18 show the left speaker.

They are equipped with a 16cm woofer and a 5cm tweeter.

The sound-absorbing material is attached to the rear panel (Photo 20).

The woofer edge has a concave shape. It is soft and shows no signs of deterioration.

Sound output has been confirmed.

Both the left and right woofers and tweeters are producing sound, but personally, I feel the tweeter efficiency is slightly low. These are products from approximately 50 years ago. Deterioration of the capacitors is also a possibility.

There is a dent on the upper front corner of the left enclosure (Photo 7).

When purchased, there was a chip on the upper part of the rear panel of the left enclosure, on the bottom right when viewed from the back. This has been filled with wood putty.

The panel on the right side of the right enclosure has discolored for some reason. If the entire unit had discolored, it would look good, but the other panels are clean (Photo 3).
