This high quality specimen is from Sar-e-Sang mines in the Badakhshan province of Afghanistan, known as the world’s most ancient and significant source of high quality lapis lazuli, with mining dating back over 7,000 years to the Bronze Age. This highly coveted gemstone by royalty since antiquity has a total carat weight of 14.5 carats.
