◻︎ Product Details
A beautiful Kimekomi doll depicting the Noh play Takasago, crafted by Sōgetsu, featuring luxurious gold brocade attire.
Takasago dolls are auspicious items symbolizing longevity and marital harmony.
Furthermore, the rake held by the old man (Jō) signifies gathering good fortune (financial luck), while the broom held by the old woman (Uba) signifies warding off evil spirits (protection from misfortune). This symbolizes a couple supporting each other, with the husband gathering fortune and the wife protecting and managing the household.
These Jō and Uba dolls represent the old man and old woman spirits of the pine trees from the legend of Aioi no Matsu (Twin Pine Tree), which is the origin of the Noh play Takasago, famous for its chant Takasago ya kono ura fune ni ho o age te... (Takasago, the lyrics of Noh).
Pine trees have been considered trees inhabited by gods since ancient times, and their evergreen nature symbolizes the auspiciousness of longevity. They also have male and female forms, evoking the image of a couple.
The Noh play Takasago is a popular celebratory piece, widely loved for its auspicious and beautiful lyrics, refreshing movements, and dance. It is often performed at weddings and celebratory occasions.
Size: Approximately 20cm in height (excluding base), base approximately 36×18×2cm.
