Fukusa case with gold pattern

Fukusa case with gold patterned fabric

A fukusa case, also known as a kaishi case, is a general term for a pouch used to hold and carry small items necessary for tea ceremony practice and tea gatherings. In addition to tea ceremony utensils, it can also be used as a pouch for cosmetics, tickets, and other items. Fukusa cases generally refer to smaller items and are classified into tri-fold, tapestry, and bi-fold types, all serving the same purpose.
The fabric appears to be a vine peony arabesque pattern. This pattern was widely used in craft designs from the Yuan to Ming dynasties in China, exhibiting a rich variety of forms. This double vine peony arabesque brocade is one of several types of fabric, with soft, realistic lines spreading across the entire surface, creating a serene and beautiful aesthetic. I believe it is a fabric that was treasured for use in the binding of imperial treasures and as a pouch for famous tea caddies, but please examine the photos carefully in case I am mistaken.
