This exquisite piece features the traditional Okinawan Hanaori pattern, woven with Tango Chirimen from Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture, renowned for its long history and advanced techniques.

Safflower dyeing, also known as Benizome or Hon-benizome, refers to dyeing with or by safflower.
The pigment from safflower is extracted into an alkaline solution from the supernatant of lye. The threads or fabric are then immersed in this solution for one to two days to absorb the color. Finally, plum vinegar is used to fix the red dye.
Deep shades are called Kankurei, Kurenai, or Hi, while lighter shades are called Sakurairo or Tokiiro. When safflower is dyed over a base of Ukon (a yellow dye), the resulting reddish-yellow hue is called Benihhi.

Hanaori is a general term for Okinawan patterned weaves.
This intricate weaving technique, which creates raised patterns on a flat fabric, results in a delicate beauty reminiscent of fine embroidery, making it a highly popular style of patterned weave.

The smooth tsumugi fabric is woven with the Hanaori pattern, featuring raised sections that give it a three-dimensional appearance and a subtle sheen.
The fabric is horizontally shaded in light green, pink, and light beige.
The simple patterns that emerge on the richly textured tsumugi fabric create a stylish impression.
This is a meticulously crafted masterpiece woven with threads carefully dyed using safflower.
