Antique 19th Century Gingerbread Mantel Clock-William L. Gilbert Clock Company
William L Gilbert Clock Company
This appears to be an antique American kitchen or gingerbread parlor mantel clock, likely produced by the Sessions Clock Company (or the E.N. Welch Manufacturing Co. prior to 1903) during the late 19th or early 20th century. It features an ornate dark-stained wooden case with carved cresting and a glass lower door decorated with gold stenciled or etched floral and geometric designs. The white dial shows Roman numerals and black spade hands, housed behind a hinged glass bezel. The image appears to show the inside back panel of an antique wooden clock case featuring a fragmented, historic maker's paper label that seems to reference the William L. Gilbert Clock Company of Winsted, Connecticut.Key ObservationsMaker Label: The partially preserved and worn paper label on the wood backboard bears text consistent with the Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co., known for producing 19th- and early 20th-century American shelf and wall clocks.Case Material: The interior backing and surrounding structure are constructed from stained and aged softwood or oak typical of vintage American clock manufacturing. This is a very old clock. That had been passed down over many generations. I have not tried to use the key or to get it operational. See photos for details.
