Shuhei Saku Yakishime Chaire

Made by Shuhei, Tea Caddy
This is a small, rustic tea caddy that highlights the natural texture of the clay. While it has practical value, it can also be displayed and enjoyed for its aesthetic appeal.

✴︎ This item is likely intended for everyday use in the home rather than as a tea caddy for formal tea ceremonies.

★★★ The potter's seal reads Shuhei, but the artist's name is unknown (please judge if you are knowledgeable).

★★★ A box is included, but it is likely not a tomo-bako (a box made by the artist) as there is no signature. Additionally, there is a sticker on the inside of the box lid with Ogata Shuhei written on it, presumably by the previous owner. While the potter's seal is similar, based on the style, I do not believe it is by Ogata Shuhei. It is possible Ogata also made unglazed fired pieces, so I cannot say for certain it is not him, but as a novice, I cannot be sure. It's possible this is a hidden gem, but please judge from the photos. (Please consider purchasing with the understanding that it is likely not by Ogata Shuhei.)

★★★ Regardless of the artist, this is a rustic and attractive lidded container.

Purchased at auction in 2019 and displayed in a glass cabinet, unused.
