this substantial vintage Currier & Ives “Winter in the Country – The Old Grist Mill” decorative plate brings that feeling home beautifully.  Made by Carson of Freeport, Pennsylvania, this striking collector plate pairs a beautifully illustrated ceramic center with a wonderfully weighty pewter-toned surround. The wide border is richly embossed with overlapping leaves, while “Currier & Ives” is cast prominently into the lower rim.  The center depicts Winter in the Country – The Old Grist Mill: a classic snow-covered American landscape filled with bare trees, water, rustic buildings and the warm golden tones of the mill.  It is wonderfully substantial in the hand at just over 2 pounds — not a lightweight reproduction — and has the soft aged patina that gives vintage pewter so much character.
