Lacquerware wooden jubako (tiered bento box) - set of two-tier and three-tier (with original box) - black with gold decoration - Taisho to early Showa period
Lacquerware tiered bento boxes, featuring gold decoration, available in two-tier and three-tier sets. Includes a black lacquered (likely urushi) tomobako (original box).
There are scuffs and some minor scratches, but the bento boxes themselves have no cracks or chips.
The tomobako has some insect damage on the bottom and slight warping on the sides.
Dating from the Taisho to early Showa periods, these Lacquerware Two-Tier and Three-Tier Tiered Bento Boxes feature black lacquer with gold maki-e style designs and red lacquer on the interior. The folded box pattern suggests they were used as family bento boxes for celebrations and New Year's.
While practical use may be difficult, they hold value as antique items for traditional Japanese house interiors, New Year's displays, Japanese cafe decor, or as curios for overseas markets.
