A set of 5 Sendai Taisyu individual plates/sweets plates, featuring delicate carvings and the Oriental beauty of vermilion and black.

Although likely used in its time, these have been stored away. No original box is included.
These are Showa-era retro lacquer plates. Due to their age, they have some scuffing as shown in the photos, two chips, and one repaired spot. However, there is no major damage, and these vermilion plates can still be used.
We appreciate your understanding if you are not overly concerned about minor imperfections.

[Sendai Taisyu]
This is a lacquerware technique where vermilion is layered multiple times over a molded base or wooden base, and then black is applied to create an aged look.
Its origins trace back to China. It is said that in the Meiji era, Einosuke Kawasaki, a craftsman of Murakami Taisyu from Niigata Prefecture, came to Sendai and laid the foundation for Sendai Taisyu.

No original box is included.
