This is a traditional craft toy from the Kiso region of Nagano Prefecture, inspired by the Hanauma Matsuri (Flower Horse Festival), which has been celebrated for over 300 years.
Each piece is handcrafted from natural cypress wood, aged over 300 years.
These toys are made as good luck charms to express gratitude for a bountiful harvest, ward off insects, and bring protection from evil.
There are slight chips on the thin bark of the decorative part on the horse's back.
