About Inahata Doll

Inahata Doll is a Hyogo Prefecture Designated Traditional Craft.
Inahata Dolls were created by Kotaro Tadatsune Akai of Inahata, Hikami Town, Tanba City, in the 3rd year of Koka (1846) during the late Edo period.

Utilizing beautiful blue, fine-grained, and strong red clay, and blessed with the moderate humidity of Tanba mist, the light and supple high-quality raw materials were influenced by Fushimi Dolls.
The dolls evoke a subtle scent of the capital, embodying a simple, approachable, elegant, and lovable sentiment,
achieving outstanding popularity among the many clay dolls nationwide.

There are over 200 types of dolls, including the dignity of Tenjin-sama, the humor of Otafuku,
the allure of Maiko, the strength of Kato Kiyomasa,
and the innocence of Kintaro.
Each is a local folk craft that perfectly blends the human sentiment and climate of Tanba,
bringing smiles to those who hold them.

By the Meiji era, they were already supplied to the Imperial Household Agency
and were exported to Belgium and America, gaining worldwide fame.
