Vintage 1930s Maruhon Ware Japanese Pottery "Fruit" Pattern Salad Plates Set 6
Maruhon
Up for sale is a beautiful, scarce matching lot of 6 vintage salad/dessert plates from the interwar period (circa 1930s). Made by Maruhon Pottery in Japan, these highly collectible pieces feature a distinctive Majolica-style influence. Each plate is hand-painted with vibrant, dimensional raised fruit decorations—including peaches, oranges, and grapes—hanging from realistic branches against an off-white background with a textured, ribbed concentric border. The underside of the plates bears the authentic early stamped Maruhon Ware logo featuring the signature letter K enclosed in a circle alongside Hand Painted Japan. Condition:This antique set is in good structural shape with no chips, no cracks, and no repairs. As is expected with 90-year-old Japanese export pottery, there is visible allover fine glaze crazing on both the front and back of the plates.Additionally, three of the plates show noticeable vintage discoloration/browning on the outer rims of their undersides (as clearly shown in the group photo of the backs). The remaining three plates have much cleaner, lighter cream-colored backs. The hand-painted fruit colors on the front remain incredibly bright, glossy, and display beautifully regardless of the bottom aging. The lot is priced to reflect these imperfections.
