These were drawn by artisans of the time to visualize the finished kimono and are woodblock printed on Japanese paper, or hand-colored.
❀ Twelve-Layered Robe (Jūnihitoe) - Kasane no Irome (Layered Colors)
This is a luxurious piece inspired by the Twelve-Layered Robe of the Heian period.
The dew-grass pattern on the under-robe, generously filled with cotton, features exquisite silver printing, giving it a noble impression.
This is a formal garment with a striking robe adorned with pine, distant mountains, and clouds, layered over six robes with a lucky rhombus pattern.
❀ Colorful Hinagiku (Rosemallow) Fan Pattern
This piece features a hinagiku fan pattern drawn with breathtakingly delicate brushstrokes.
This design was used for furisode (long-sleeved kimono), irotomesode (colored crested kimono), and houmongi (visiting kimono). Its elegant and high-ranking pattern suggests it was worn for court audiences, banquets, and parties.
