【Authentic】Rikka Shimokawa "Vermilion Fuji" Original Painting with Signature, Red Fuji, Japanese Painting, Framed, Inten FUJI

221.10 $
Description
This is Shuei Fugaku (Red Fuji), a highly auspicious work by the esteemed Nihonga artist Rikka Shimokawa, known for his special appointment at the Japan Art Institute (In-ten).

Red Fuji is a breathtaking sight that can only be seen for a brief period from late summer to early autumn. It is said to possess strong fortune-bringing powers, such as warding off disaster, promoting business prosperity, and severing bad relationships.

This is a magnificent and auspicious scroll featuring a vibrant Red Fuji painted in a beautiful horizontal composition.

The contrast between the fiery vermilion of the mountain's surface and the bold black descending towards the foothills is striking. The addition of gold leaf (kindai) in the background elevates it beyond a mere landscape painting, expressing a sense of divinity.

*Unique undulations and brushstrokes can be seen on the surface of Mt. Fuji. This thickness is characteristic of nikuhitsu (works directly painted by the artist's brush) and creates an overwhelming presence not found in prints, as its appearance changes with the light.

Rikka Shimokawa (1926-2013) was born in Gifu Prefecture and was one of the artists who supported the post-war Nihonga art world. He established a special appointment at the Japan Art Institute (In-ten) and was highly acclaimed for his solid realism and elegant colors. This piece, by a highly regarded artist featured in the Art Yearbook, masterfully depicts his signature motif, Red Fuji, with passionate vermilion and gold leaf.

The artwork is housed in a substantial natural wood frame. The warmth and calm texture of the wood further enhance the artwork's prestige, making it blend beautifully not only with Japanese-style rooms but also as an interior decoration for modern living spaces.
