Iwasaki painted many children from behind. Because their facial expressions are not visible, these rear views stimulate the viewer's imagination. This painting of a girl was used on the back cover of Totto-chan, the Little Girl at the Window, and is said to be one of Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's favorites. Kuroyanagi relates to the feelings of childhood and interprets this painting as follows:
Even though she's facing away, I feel like I can tell that this girl, with her pigtails tied with differently colored ribbons on each side, has found something interesting and her eyes are sparkling. It looks like she's about to dash off in the next moment. Her small shoulders seem ready to move with her breath.
