Description
Created by Kato Shinmei (1910-1998), a renowned deceased Nihonga painter who studied under Nakamura Gakuryo, a recipient of the Order of Cultural Merit. He was active primarily in the Nitten exhibition, winning numerous awards including the Nitten Special Prize, and later served as a judge for the Nitten exhibition.
This is a hand-printed woodblock print with Hydrangeas as its theme. Created in 1948 (Showa 23), it is a valuable early work that differs from his later signature style, which often featured figures, particularly maiko.
The artwork depicts a vibrant scene in nature, reminiscent of his teacher Gakuryo, with a realistic portrayal of a dragonfly resting on a hydrangea rendered in soft colors.
Publisher's seal is present.
