SUPERB 1940's BLACK FELT WIDE BRIM HAT + RED FEATHER "BUTTERFLY" & FULL VEIL

This is an amazing black felt wide brim hat from the late 1940s'! The crown is flat and creates a cap that peeks up from the brim.to help keep the hat in position. There is a wide downturned brim edged in grosgrain and attaches all around the crown. At each side there are black grosgrain bows that hold part of the magnificent full veil. The veil is also secured on the top front part of the hat by 2 beautiful red feathers and black quills in the shape of a butterfly. The veil can be positioned over the hat if so desired, as shown in photo # 11. This is a timeless, elegant piece of fashion history! There is no designer label, indicating it was a custom-made creation.  The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling & artificial flowers were popular.   No label. This is a custom design.   Please keep in mind that you are buying a vintage hat, not new nor perfect! This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years.
