This is the GRACE photo book published by UNDER COVER.
This book was created as a new endeavor by designer Jun Takahashi, who, questioning the entertainment of models walking the runway in new collections – a common practice in the fashion industry – wanted to break free and forge his own path. He took a break from his 14 years of fashion shows to produce this work.
While the book features GRACE, a plush creature originally created for the magazine A MAGAZINE, approximately 50 new GRACE figures were created specifically for this project.
This photo book depicts a story of coexistence between these GRACE figures and humans.
It portrays a peace maintained through a delicate balance, despite underlying dissonance. This may reflect the designer's own sense of distance from society and the fashion industry, mirrored in the narrative.
The photographs, shot by Katsuhide Morimoto, with art direction by ENZ, lighting by Tetsu Moriteru, hair and makeup by Katsuya Kamo, and editing by Yasuyuki Takase, are finished to resemble cinematic scenes without any CG compositing.
