1973 D51 353 / D51 943 Otaru-Chikko Depot: Majestic Faces

[D51 353 History]
1940-02: Newly built by Hitachi, Ltd. Kasado. Assigned to Sendai Bureau, stationed at Haramachi Depot.
1940-03: Put into service at Haramachi Depot.
1958-04: Designated as Class 1 Reserve Vehicle (Hold Vehicle) at Haramachi Depot.
1958-04: Class 1 Reserve Vehicle (Hold Vehicle) designation lifted at Haramachi Depot.
1967-10: Transferred from Haramachi Depot to Otaru-Chikko Depot.
1967-11: Underwent cold-weather modifications, installation of rotating windows, and auxiliary headlight at Naebo Works.
1973-11: Scrapped at Otaru-Chikko Depot.

[D51 943 History]
1944-03: Newly built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Hyogo. Assigned to Sapporo Bureau, stationed at Oshamanbe Depot.
1944-05: Put into service at Oshamanbe Depot. Later underwent cold-weather modifications.
1945-09: Transferred to Tsui Depot, then Iwamizawa Depot, then Otaru-Chikko Depot.
1953-12: Equipped with smoke deflectors and cab sealing at Naebo Works (date unknown).
1966-11: Equipped with auxiliary headlight and Hokkaido-spec shortened smoke deflectors at Naebo Works.
1973-10: Transferred from Otaru-Chikko Depot to Kitami Depot.
1975-05: Transferred from Kitami Depot to Takikawa Depot.
1976-03: Scheduled for scrapping at Takikawa Depot. Total mileage: 2,369,293.4 km.
1977-05: Free loan agreement concluded between the Director of Shizuoka Railway Bureau and the Mayor of Fuji City.
1977-12: Preserved at Iriyamase Park along with Oha 35441.
2016-03: Continues to be preserved at Iriyamase Park under a roof with regular maintenance.
